A bike is the classic private-sale item: high enough value to matter, easy enough to dispute. A short bill of sale makes the handover clean for both sides — and the serial number is the detail that matters most.
What to include
- The bike — make, model, frame size, color, and the serial number (usually under the bottom bracket).
- Condition — note wear, any issues, and that it’s sold as-is.
- Price and payment method.
- Buyer, seller, and date.
Recording the serial number does double duty: it proves which exact bike was sold, and it gives the buyer a record if the bike is ever lost or stolen.
